Stories for Telling is an invitation to all who work and play with young children to become story tellers; to discover the joy of storytelling and discover the intimate world that stories create. Yvonne sees storytelling as a rich experience that meanders through a pathway of music, dance, drama, rhymes and playful language. A pathway that is rich in encounters with puppets, small theatres and soundscapes. A pathway that invites children, their parents, caregivers and other early childhood educators to join her on a magical journey.

The stories in Stories for Telling have been specifically written for telling and generally have few characters so they can be easily remembered. The stories have a visual dimension that is easily translated into telling with the use of props. The props used in the book are easily and inexpensively made. Many of them are made from recycled materials. Photographs and some templates have been included to illustrate these.

Dance, Shaba, Dance!... and other puppet stories is the first in a series of companion books to Stories for Telling (Pademelon Press 2005).

The stories are written for participation, reading aloud, puppet telling, felt and magnetic boards, and sand trays. Many are invitations to dramatise, to dance, or to create music.

Most of the stories are illustrated by a puppet especially handmade for that story. The puppets are constructed from a diverse range of materials including, stocking sculpture, gourds, wooden spoons, styrofoam and paper mache.

The children attending St Saviour's Prep and Preschool in Toowoomba participated in a series of puppet workshops where the children created interesting puppets, stories and plays. Stories and images from the workshops are included in the book.
